What AI brand monitoring costs in the UK and Australia — and whether annual contracts are worth it

What AI brand monitoring tools charge by the month and by the year, what changes when you buy in pounds or Australian dollars, and the annual-versus-monthly arithmetic — including the parts we could not verify.

Search for AI brand monitoring from London or Sydney and you meet a shelf priced in US dollars, with annual discounts and tax treatment tucked behind a toggle. This piece does three things: it sets out the published prices we could verify, separates what changes in the UK and Australia from what does not, and runs the annual-contract arithmetic so you can see what a discount is actually worth.

The published prices, in the currency the vendors list

Prices read from each vendor's own pricing page on 7 October 2026, except where marked otherwise. US dollars, monthly billing, before tax.

Tool Monthly billing Annual billing What decides the real total
Otterly.ai Lite $29, Standard $189, Premium $489 $25/month on Lite Google AI Mode, Gemini and Claude are paid add-ons at $9–$149 per month each, depending on tier
Semrush (SEO + AI Search) $199 $165/month The annual plan is the headline price
Ahrefs Brand Radar AI Visibility Index from $50; prompt-level $199; all-models $699 No annual price in our check The $199 tier is metered at 83 prompts a day and 2,500 checks a month
Peec AI €90–€499 in third-party listings Quoted on a call The vendor gives the number, not the website

Market-size data is US-shaped as well: the phrase "best AI visibility tools" returns 590 searches a month in the US data we pulled on 27 October 2026 (DataForSEO Labs, difficulty 15). The same pull carries no UK or Australian volumes we could cite, so any claim about how many British or Australian businesses are shopping for this would be guesswork.

What changes if you buy in pounds or Australian dollars

Three things — and only one of them is the exchange rate.

  1. The rate on the day you compare. A price converted at last quarter's rate is not the price you pay. Write the date next to any converted figure; it expires.
  2. Tax. UK and Australian quotes may be shown before VAT or GST, US quotes before local sales tax. Two offices comparing the same plan can be looking at two different numbers and neither is wrong. Ask "is that inclusive?" before you put the figures side by side.
  3. The add-ons. If the engine you care about is a paid extra, the local price has to cover the extra as well. A cheap base plan with three engine add-ons is not a cheap plan.

What we could not verify: the vendor pages we checked on 7 October 2026 listed prices in US dollars, and we have no verified GBP or AUD list price to publish. Whether a vendor localises at checkout depends on the vendor, so ask before you compare two countries. Rather than convert at a rate that goes stale within a week, this page gives you no converted figure at all. Ask for a quote in your own currency with the tax line shown, and keep the date on the email.

The annual-contract arithmetic

Two vendors publish both numbers, so the discount can be computed rather than guessed:

  • Semrush: $199 a month on monthly billing against $165 a month billed annually. That is $34 less a month, $408 less over a year, and about 17% off.
  • Otterly Lite: $29 a month against $25 a month billed annually. That is $4 less a month, $48 over a year, and about 14% off.

Those are the two annual discounts we could compute from published prices. Ahrefs and Peec did not give us an annual number to check, so ask them directly rather than assuming the same percentage carries across the shelf.

Why per-prompt, per-engine and per-seat pricing is hard to compare

Three different units are mixed together on this shelf:

  • Engines. Otterly charges per engine for Google AI Mode, Gemini and Claude, at $9–$149 a month each depending on tier. A plan covering ChatGPT alone is not the same product as one covering five AI surfaces.
  • Prompts. The $199 Ahrefs tier is metered at 83 prompts a day and 2,500 checks a month. If you need 300 prompts a day, the headline price is not your price.
  • Seats and brands. Dashboard products usually price per user or per brand, so a team of three pays a multiple of the list figure.

Before comparing two headline numbers, write down five things: how many engines, how many prompts a month, how many brands, how many seats, and whether you get the answer transcripts or only a score. The five checkpoints we use are the same ones we would apply to any quote on this shelf.

Annual, monthly, or neither

An annual contract earns its discount when all four of these are true:

  • You already have a baseline to compare against, because you have measured once.
  • Someone on your side acts on the monthly change — a new wrong claim, a competitor gaining share.
  • The plan includes the engines and the prompt volume you actually use.
  • The discount is worth more than the flexibility you give up.

It is a bad first purchase when you have never measured, when nobody will log in after month two, or when the annual price locks in add-ons you have not tested.

The arithmetic that settles it for most single-location businesses: the cheapest monthly tier we checked is $29, which is $348 a year — about 70 of our $4.99 measurements. If you do not yet have a baseline, a year of monitoring buys twelve readings of a number you cannot interpret yet.

A cheaper way to buy the first number

The contract question — what a subscription buys that a single report does not — is worked through in one-time report or monitoring. If you are comparing dashboards rather than annual terms, the Otterly alternatives piece prices the monthly shelf. Both sit inside the wider audit and pricing guide, and the free check explains what a free tier can and cannot tell you.
