AI visibility for dental practices: what transfers, what needs measuring

What the measured med spa and family dental samples actually found, what transfers to dentists, and what only a measurement of your own market can tell you.

We have measured local service markets in depth, dentistry included — a med spa sample and a family dental practice (both real client runs, pseudonymised) are published. Here is what those measurements found for dentistry, and what only a measurement of your own market can answer. If a vendor quotes dental-specific AI visibility statistics at you, ask where they measured them.

What the measured evidence says about local practices generally

Three findings from those published measurements, and what they mean for a dental practice:

The AI answer about your category is built before it reaches you. In the measured dental market, the answers were assembled from 38 distinct third-party sites — and the practice's own site appeared on none of them. A dental patient asking about implants, Invisalign, or "dentist near me open Saturday" gets an answer built entirely from elsewhere.

Prices get quoted, rarely from you. Assistants answer cost questions even when your prices are unreadable to them — they assemble a number from whoever published one in machine-readable form. In the med spa sample, 53 price quotes appeared: 36 matched the business's own published prices exactly, and 17 had no price on the site to check them against.

Even a market leader gets facts wrong. The measured practice ranked #1 of 85 — recommended in 20 of 42 shortlist searches — and one assistant still told a buyer the practice has no membership club, while a Membership Club page sits on its own site.

What dental adds on top

Dentistry has three characteristics that shape how those general findings land:

  • High-consideration, high-anxiety purchases. Implants and orthodontics are researched for weeks before a call. The questions buyers ask AI sit in that research window ("does Invisalign hurt," "implant vs bridge cost"), exactly where an assistant naming or skipping you matters most.
  • Insurance and pricing complexity. "Does my insurance cover it" questions make the machine-readable-price problem worse: if the answer can't come from you, it comes from an aggregator's stale estimate.
  • Review platforms matter more than in most categories. The platforms patients use to choose dentists are among the sources assistants read. Being present and accurately described there is part of AI visibility, not separate from it.

What a real measurement asks your market

An audit of a dental practice would ask questions a buyer would actually ask — across the whole consideration window, in your city, in the language of your patients, put to every major assistant and to Google's own results page. Not "what do you know about {practice}" but the questions that decide appointments: category ("best dentist for implants in {city}"), comparison ("invisalign vs braces adult"), and booking-adjacent ("{practice} new patient cost"). Then every answer graded, every claim fact-checked against your site, every cited source listed.

That is what our method does for any local practice. The free check shows you the exact questions we'd use for your market — all 30, in full — before you decide anything.
